Samuel Shor, MD
Clinician
Samuel Shor, MD, FACP sees patients at the Center through teleconferencing and is also responsible for supplying and teaching educational material to the Center's staff. He is the director of Internal Medicine for Northern Virginia University and has practiced medicine for over 30 years. He has a wealth of experience training and mentoring clinicians on Tick-Borne Illnesses (TBI)- as part of his practice, as Clinical Faculty at George Washington University and in his role as the International Lyme and Associated Diseases (ILADS) President. He is passionate about teaching and training as well as patient care, winning numerous teaching and Best Doctor awards.
Dr. Shor received his MD from the Medical University of South Carolina and completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at George Washington University. He is a participant of the US Health and Human Services (HHS) Lyme Innovation Roundtable, was President of ILADS from 10/15-11/17 and is the author of numerous clinical and scientific articles on TBI and chronic illness. He has been the Principal Investigator in numerous industry diagnostic trials for Lyme disease.

Ashley Johnson, NP-BC
Nurse Practitioner
Ashley is one of the Tick Center's caring medical providers who sees a wide variety of patients: from someone who was just bitten from a tick to someone who has been struggling with a tick-borne disease for years. She received her bachelor's degree in nursing from the University of Madison-School of Nursing and later went on to receive her master's degree in Nursing from Concordia University of Wisconsin– becoming a board certified family nurse practitioner. Her passion and commitment to patients has been demonstrated through her experiences working in rural communities international and within Wisconsin. She has worked within a medical/surgical ICU, an Urgent Care, Occupational Therapy, Oncology, and a Wound Clinic.

Kathy McCaughn
Office Manager
Kathy manages the office affairs at the Center and maintains a structured workplace. She was the administrator for One Penny Place for eighteen years and was in on the ground floor building it. Prior to that Kathy worked for Howard Young Medical Center for six years in various roles including construction/space management and facilities engineering. Kathy was an Emergency Medical Technician for the Plum Lake Ambulance Service for 11 years and in addition was a American Heart Association CPR instructor for 5 years. She has served on the Sayner-Star Lake Lioness Club board as President and was on various long-term care coalitions. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for Generations/Lakeland Retirement Foundation and has been very involved in multiple community functions.
